Article by Emma on November 6, 2012

Vegan vegetarian christmas cake recipe

Ok, it's early November which is slightly early to be getting Christmas fever, but I'm fully in the spirit already and already planning our Christmas menu with my mum! We'll be making a vegan Christmas cake so my mum can enjoy it, and have a recipe so good that no-one will notice the difference! This vegan cake is also made with whole wheat flour to give it an extra healthy edge.

MyFitnessPal Review – Online fitness and diet tool

Review by Julia on October 22, 2012

I only have a few pounds to lose but these pounds have been hanging around ever since I gave up smoking, so I really need to lose them before they turn into stones! I have been looking for a while now to find the best online calorie counter, somewhere I can log my daily food diary and add my exercise routines. After a long and frankly frustrating search, I have finally found what I want when I logged on to MyFitnessPal.com. Not only is it exactly what I am looking for, it is also completely and utterly free of charge! Continue reading

Dairy Free Recipe: Tarte de Santiago (Almond Cake)

Article by Julia on September 8, 2012

Here in the Mediterranean this wonderful cake, made with 2 of the locally grown crops - lemons and almonds - is served in all the restaurants in various different ways. It can be served in little cubes with morning coffee or after dinner along with a digestif. But best of all, as a dessert in its own right, dusted with icing sugar and served with seasonal fresh fruit. There are no dairy products or any wheat products used so it’s the ideal cake to serve to allergy sufferers. Oh, and it’s a breeze to bake and absolutely delicious!! Continue reading

Workout DVD Review: Jillian Michaels Killer Buns and Thighs

Review by Julia on August 25, 2012

Jillian micheals killer buns and thighs dvd review
I ordered this DVD from Amazon and it arrived really quickly, so you can imagine my excitement as I am a Jillian fan! Only one problem, I was out flat with colds and flu for nearly a month so Jillian had to wait. But oh my goodness, she was well worth the wait! She promises thighs so lean and mean that they will destroy the sexiest jeans money can buy. Who in their right mind doesn’t want a bit of that? This is a hard core, fat blasting, booty sculpting work out and as usual Jillian is the queen of mean! She’s not taking any prisoners in this DVD. Continue reading

Jillian Micheals Ripped In 30 Workout Diary Week 4

Review by Emma on June 15, 2012

Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 workout diary review

I have finally reached level 4 of my Ripped in 30 workout DVD! It feels damn good to get here, although it does feel like it's been a long time coming. I lost half a pound last week and toned up a lot so have nothing but high hopes for this final level.

There's a sadistic excitement about starting a new level and wondering how hard it's going to be! I've been tempted to peak and watch a bit of level 4 ever since I opened the DVD and now it's finally here!!!!

Jillian Micheals Ripped In 30 Workout Diary Week 3

Review by Emma on June 5, 2012

I didn't lose any weight last week, but still feel really happy with my progress when I look in the mirror, not to mention buttoning up my jeans. I'm not entirely optimistic about this week either due to the friends in town situation...got to enjoy it while they are here! Was slightly worried that I wouldn't be able to fit in any workouts at all but I did suprisingly well, despite a few moans, so here you have it...Week 3 of Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30. Jillian Micheals Ripped In 30 Workout Diary Week 2

Review by Emma on May 26, 2012

You may notice that Part II of this Ripped in 30 review has had a slight posting delay as I had visitors over for a week and barely had time to touch my laptop. I did my last day on this level the day they arrived and so was feeling pretty smug! I had ended week one with weight loss of just under a pound and was seeing some improvement in my arm muscles and a much flatter stomach. That's enough motivation to get cracking on level two!

Jillian Micheals Ripped In 30 Workout Diary Week 1

Review by Emma on May 8, 2012

Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 workout DVD review
As you may have noticed from my 30 Day Shred review, I'm a big Jillian Michaels fan when it comes to working out. After doing a few 30 Day Shreds to get into shape for certain events it started to get a bit easy (!!!) so I got on Amazon and started seeing what else Jillian had out there and Ripped in 30 caught my eye! The DVD includes a 30 day eating plan which I'm sure doubles the results you can get from the workout alone but I'll disclose now that I won't be following the plan as it includes meat and other things that I don't eat. I'll be continuing with my usual diet and see what results I get from the workout by itself. Continue reading

Vegan Recipe: Fresh Peas and Broad Beans with Cherry Tomatoes

Article by Julia on April 21, 2012

healthy vegan side dish

Spring is on its way with a whole host of delicious spring produce including peas and beans in a pod. So much better than the frozen ones available all year round at the local supermarket! This recipe is a wonderful way to eat fresh seasonal peas and beans. I know that they taste divine just steamed and served, but sometimes it’s nice to try something different. As a vegan I love this recipe served with little roasted new potatoes and carrots.

A super healthy dish with folic acid and vitamin c.

As a side dish this recipe serves 4.

Top 10 Worst Vegetarian Takeouts

Article by Emma on January 15, 2012

top 10 worst vegetarian takeouts

I like to think of myself as a healthy person but I do get the odd craving for a takeout, and as I'm living in the middle of a city there are plenty of options right on my door-step. On those days where I just don't feel like cooking and crave something "naughty", I usually just go for whatever I feel like and I have zero idea of what kind of nutritional info I'm choosing between when debating a Mediterranean pizza over a vegetable Korma. After all, bad is bad right?
